Manage Product Listing Order with Keywords

All products in the Convermax product listing have a ranking score, determining their placement in search results. The higher the score, the higher the product will rank.

You can influence the position of specific products or products of certain categories by adjusting their ranking scores with the convermax-boost: keyword.

Default Boost Parameters

The default boost coefficients are ranked from highest to lowest as follows:

  1. View count
  2. Vehicle specific product
  3. Universal product
  4. In-stock products
  5. Available products
  6. Products with images
  7. Review score
  8. Sort order
  9. Random value for mixing

Manage the Boost

The final boost score is calculated by combining the product, category, and brand boost scores.

The default boost value is around 10.0. To boost products, it is sufficient to set a custom boost value to 1.5. If a product needs to be upgraded independently of the default parameters, a value of 5.0-10.0 should be enough.

Search Query Boost: An additional boost is applied to products that match the search query.

Negative Boost: A negative boost value can lower a product’s ranking in search results.

Category Boost: If a product belongs to multiple categories with boost scores, the highest category boost will be applied.

Add Boost to a Product

The Product Boost keyword lets you adjust the ranking score for individual products:

  1. In your BigCommerce dashboard, go to the Products View and select the product you want to modify.
  2. Add the convermax-boost:VALUE to the Search Keywords field.
  3. Replace the VALUE with a decimal value to boost or demote the product in search results.

Add Boost to a Category

The Category Boost keyword allows you to adjust the ranking score for all products in a specific category:

  1. In your BigCommerce dashboard, go to the Product Categories View and select the category you want to modify.
  2. Add the convermax-boost:VALUE to the Search Keywords field.
  3. Replace the VALUE with a decimal value to boost or demote products from the category in search results.

Add Boost to a Brand

The Brand Boost keyword lets you adjust the ranking score for individual products:

  1. In your BigCommerce dashboard, go to the Brands View and select the brand you want to modify.
  2. Add the convermax-boost:VALUE to the Search Keywords field.
  3. Replace the VALUE with a decimal value to boost or demote the product in search results.
