Automotive & E-Commerce Vocabulary List 📚🚗 from A to Z

🔁 ACES (Aftermarket Catalog Exchange Standard) — A data standard for sharing vehicle fitment data using a consistent format, based on the VCdb structure.


🔧 ACES Export — Exports fitment data (which parts fit which vehicles), uses fields like Year, Make, Model, etc., and relies on AAIDs and VCdb.

📦 PIES (Product Information Exchange Standard) Export — Exports product content (descriptions, pricing, images, etc.) to marketplaces and retailers. Typically shared as XML files.


🔄 Aftermarket — Parts made by third-party manufacturers for customization, repairs, or upgrades — not from the original carmaker.


🆔 AAID (Auto Care Association ID) — A unique identifier representing a specific vehicle configuration in VCdb (year, make, model, engine, etc.).


🚀 Astro — An open-source, server-first web framework focused on performance and minimal JavaScript. Great for content-rich sites like e-commerce.


🛒 ATC (Add to Cart) — A key user action on e-commerce sites that places a product into the shopping cart — often tracked for conversion metrics.


💸 BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) — A payment method that lets consumers purchase and pay in installments — often interest-free if paid on time.


📉 CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) — A core web vital that measures visual stability — how much content “shifts” unexpectedly as a page loads. Lower CLS improves user experience and SEO.


📣 CTA (Call to Action) — A prompt encouraging user interaction — e.g., “Shop Now,” “Learn More,” “Add to Cart” — commonly used in buttons and banners.


🔄 DH2T (Data Here-to-There) — A service that automates secure data transfer and integration between business systems. Provides advanced product curation for Turn 14 Distribution, real-time inventory updates, dynamic pricing, and MAP rule enforcement.


🚗 DRD (DriveRightDATA) — A provider of international wheel and tire fitment data, integrated into catalogs for accurate fitment filtering and recommendations.


⛽ EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) — Modern fuel system using sensors and computers to optimize fuel delivery — efficient, eco-friendly, and reliable.


🏭 ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Imports — Uploading or syncing business/inventory data into or from an ERP system — integrates with tools like PIMs or websites.


🧩 Facet Panel — A sidebar on search/category pages that lets users filter results by attributes like price, brand, and vehicle compatibility.


📊 Fitment Table — A table on product pages listing compatible vehicles — includes year, make, model, engine, notes, etc.


🧰 Garage (aka My Garage) — Lets users save vehicles to their profile for personalized fitment-aware Browse.


🧾 Item.rt — A product detail page (PDP) template showing title, price, images, YMM info, etc..


🏷️ MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) — The lowest price a seller can advertise publicly, as defined by the manufacturer.


🔧 MPN / Part Number (Manufacturer Part Number) — A unique identifier assigned by a manufacturer to a specific product — critical for matching parts in catalogs and inventory systems. Usually, MPN is unique only among a single manufacturer. See also SKU.


💸 MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) — A financial metric for tracking predictable monthly income in subscription-based businesses.


✅ OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) — Parts made by the original vehicle/component maker, ensuring factory-level quality and fit.


🧾 PDM Automotive (Paramount Data Management Inc.) — The company partners with hundreds of aftermarket parts manufacturers and can connect with several other data providers. PDM allows its customers to create and maintain automotive data.


🧾 PDP (Product Detail Page) — A page dedicated to a single product — includes images, specs, pricing, YMM fitment info, ATC (Add to Cart) button, and CTAs. Central to the customer decision-making process.


📦 PIES (Product Information Exchange Standard) — A standard for transmitting product data (dimensions, marketing, prices, etc.) in the automotive aftermarket.


📦 PIM (Product Information Management) — A system to centralize and manage product data (titles, specs, translations, etc.) for consistent e-commerce listings.


🗂️ PLP (Product Listing Page) — A category or search results page showing multiple products — supports filters, sorting, and usually includes thumbnail images, price, and short descriptions.


🛒 Retail Price / MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) — The recommended selling price for a product — can be sold above or below, unless MAP policies apply.


📦 SDC (SEMA Data Co-op) — A centralized data repository enabling manufacturers to share rich product data with resellers, retailers, and marketplaces using PIES/ACES standards.


🔢 SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) — A unique alphanumeric code used to identify and track inventory items within warehouses, storefronts, and product catalogs. Usually, SKU is unique among other manufacturers products. See also MPN.


🔧 Square Wheel Setup (Non-Staggered Setup) — A wheel/tire configuration where all four wheels are the same size — common in FWD and AWD vehicles.


🔧 Staggered Wheel Setup — Rear wheels are wider (and/or larger) than front — typical for RWD sports cars to enhance performance.


🚙 SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) — Vehicles combining passenger car and off-road features — higher clearance, AWD/FWD, and roomy interiors.


🚚 T14 (Turn14 Distribution) — A major performance parts distributor offering real-time inventory, drop-shipping, and reseller tools for the aftermarket industry.


🛠️ Vehicle Configuration Database (VCdb) — Standardizes vehicle data for accurate automotive fitment in the North American aftermarket.


🚘 VIN Search (Vehicle Identification Number) — A tool that identifies exact vehicle configuration using the 17-character VIN — more accurate than basic YMM.


🚗 YMM Bar — A tool (usually at the top of the site) for selecting Year, Make, and Model — drives vehicle-specific filtering.


🔍 YMM Fields — Fields used in databases like VCdb to define vehicle fitment — divided into Base Fields (required) and Extra Fields (optional).


🚘 YMM Tool (Year Make Model Tool) — A tool to filter parts by a customer’s vehicle details (YMM) — improves fitment accuracy and user experience.
