Configuring the Category/Subcategory filter
We offer several common options to configure the Category filter.
- We can display a flat list of applicable Shopify collections without any hierarchy. We can exclude certain collections as needed.
- We can use a Shopify Navigation menu to organize Collections into a hierarchy. Shopify allows up to 3 levels of nesting. Here is a guide on how to create a menu for that: How to create a Category Tree You can use the same navigation menu for the top menu navigation panel & for the Category filter. We can also reuse only a section of your menu.
- You can have a Collections filter + Product Type filter. Since the list of product types is usually long, we would configure a condition to display the Product Type filter only after a collection is selected.
- For stores with Turn14 only parts, we can use Turn14’s two-level product category hierarchy and display Turn14’s category/subcategory filter. This is going to be the same list of categories and subcategories you see in the Turn14 admin dashboard.
Note, the “Shop by Category” page is based on the same Category filter we have on the filter panel. So changing the filter will affect the options listed on this page as well.
